GOALA NO COST WAY TO DONATE TO BENEDICTINE
Through the Georgia GOAL (Greater Opportunities for Access to Learning) Scholarship Program, alumni and friends are able to receive a Georgia tax credit in return for financial support of Benedictine. Georgia law allows the establishment of 501(c)(3) Student Scholarship Organizations, also known as SSOs. As an SSO, GOAL accepts donations on Benedictine’s behalf. Donations to GOAL fund scholarships that enable qualified students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend BC the opportunity to do so.
GOAL allows donors to direct their donations to the participating private school of their choice. Once the donation has been designated for a particular school, the funds will stay with that school until awarded in scholarships. GOAL will award scholarships to students with a family income of $88,000 or less. To qualify, the student must be entering Benedictine from a public school and be a Georgia resident. GOAL scholarship students must meet standard admissions requirements and be accepted to attend BC.
In return for a donation to GOAL, married taxpayers filing jointly are allowed a maximum Georgia tax credit of $2,500. Those filing single are allowed a maximum credit of $1,000. Corporations may claim a credit up to 75% of Georgia income tax liability. This credit is a dollar for dollar reduction of the donor’s Georgia income tax bill.
The Georgia Assembly set a total statewide cap on the tax credit of $50,000,000 per year, and is available to donors on a first come first serve basis. The donor must submit a simple application to obtain approval to submit funds to GOAL using Georgia Form IT-QEE-TP1. The donation is also eligible as an itemized deduction on the Federal return.
